The Ghana Shippers’ Authority on 2ndJuly 2018 made a donation to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital.
The Chief Executive Officer, Ms Benonita Bismarck who led the delegation to present curtains to the hospital said the donation was part of the Authority’s social responsibility and commitment from its staff to support mental health in Ghana.
She said, many a time, people with mental health problems are left uncared for and that alone impedes the quick recovery of patients. She encouraged the families of mental health patients to show love and support during their recovery period.
Ms Bismarck added “the curtains are to beautify the wards to make them comfortable for patients stay in the hospital while receiving treatment”.
The Director of the hospital, Dr Frank Banning expressed appreciation to the Authority for the kind gesture. He said mental illness is like any other sickness which can be treated and pleaded with the public to support the Mental Hospital to discharge its duties to patients.
He further urged Ghanaians to be conscious as a people to mental health and indicated his team’s readiness to support by screening and holding talks on stress management and how to identify basic signs of mental health in institutions and schools.
