The Governing Board of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), led by Chairman Honourable Mike Allen Hammah, undertook a familiarization tour of key aviation and cargo handling institutions at the Accra International Airport to deepen their understanding of Ghana’s air cargo ecosystem and also strengthen ties with the strategic stakeholders in there.
The delegation included GSA Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, Mrs. Ewurabena Aubynn, Madam Salamatu Fuad, Mr. Clement Boateng, Dr. Yaw Adu-Agyei Gyamfi, and Mr. Nathaniel Amonoo Wilson.
At the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Group Executive for Commercial Services, Mr. Kwame Baffour Awuah Otchere outlined GACL’s mandate for managing and maintaining airport infrastructure to support safe and secure operations. He commended GSA for establishing the Exporters’ Forum, describing it as an important platform that is driving dialogue among exporters and trade facilitation institutions to resolve bottlenecks and thereby boost export competitiveness.

At Aviance Ghana, Director of Operations, Ms. Michaela Walker detailed the company’s role in passenger, ramp, and cargo handling for international airlines. She likewise praised the Exporters’ Forum as a valuable platform that is uniting export value chain actors to address practical challenges. She urged wider stakeholder participation to strengthen coordination across the sector. She also flagged the frequent breakdown of the airport’s import cargo scanner and called for mobile scanners to be reintroduced to ease clearance disruptions.
At Swissport Ghana, Managing Director Mr. Maarten Klijnstra briefed the Board on the company’s safety-first operations and continued investment in efficient passenger, aircraft, and cargo handling systems. He also acknowledged GSA’s role in advancing trade facilitation and supporting Ghana’s logistics sector.

Both Aviance Ghana and Swissport Ghana led the Board on guided tours of their cargo Terminals, offering first-hand insight into handling procedures, warehouse operations, and safety protocols.
Members of the Governing Board described the familiarization tour as insightful and timely, noting that the engagements had provided valuable perspectives on the opportunities and operational challenges within Ghana’s air cargo logistics chain.

In his concluding remarks, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Mike Hammah underscored the need for stronger collaboration among airport-based state Agencies, noting that closer cooperation would enhance trade facilitation and efficiency in cargo processing.
