The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has met with a cross-section of seasoned Media personalities as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the GSA and the Media to educate the public on the GSA’s purpose, policies and programs; and their impact on the socio-economic development of the country.
The strategic engagement, held at the Shippers’ House in Accra on Wednesday, 16th April 2025, formed part of Prof. Gyampo’s broader stakeholder engagement agenda following his recent nationwide visit to the GSA’s zonal offices as well as to key stakeholder Agencies. The meeting further aimed at fostering stronger partnerships with the Media to ensure that the impact of the GSA’s mandate are not only communicated effectively to the public, but are done in record time across multiple channels.
In his address, Prof. Gyampo emphasized the critical role of the Media, which is rightly referred to as the 4th Estate of the Realm, in shaping public perception and appreciation of issues. He said that, effective collaboration between the Media and institutions like the GSA to amplify their work and how it impacts the national purse, is by any measure a potent strategy for catalyzing national development. He called on the Media to be deliberate about amplifying the GSA’s initiatives, advocacy, and contributions to the development of Ghana’s shipping and logistics sector to demonstrate the organization’s resolve to play its role in the “Reset Agenda” of His Excellency, President John D. Mahama without let or hindrance.
“We are not just interested in being in the news, we want to be in the news for the right reasons,” he stated. “Our work affects trade, transport, and economic development, and the media has a powerful role to play in helping the public to understand and appreciate the importance of what we do.”
The engagement also served as a sensitization platform and provided the Media deeper insight into the operations of the GSA, its strategic direction, and its renewed commitment under Prof. Gyampo’s leadership.
The Media experts commended the CEO for the forum and expressed their commitment to supporting the GSA’s efforts to reduce the cost of doing business in Ghana, particularly, in international trade, through responsible, accurate, and impactful reporting. They welcomed the opportunity to build a stronger relationship with the GSA, and underscored the importance of proactive and open dialogue. They urged GSA to hold such informative sessions on a more regular basis to enable the strategic intent of the meeting to come to fruition.
Prof. Gyampo’s meeting with the Media is testament to his hands-on and inclusive leadership style and marks another step towards positioning the Ghana Shippers’ Authority as a dynamic, transparent, and people-centred institution at the heart of Ghana’s trade facilitation efforts.
