The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has begun the 2026 Business year on a high note, earning continental recognition at the 2026 Africa Governments Summit and Public Sector Innovation Awards. While the GSA received an award for “Excellence in Trade Facilitation and Shipping Services,” the Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, was honoured as a “Visionary Leader in Trade Facilitation.”
Through the provision of bespoke services to the shipping and logistics sector, GSA has enabled the sector to enhance its pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Ghana. The twin recognition therefore highlights GSA’s expanding role in advancing trade facilitation in line with its mandate under the Ghana Shippers’ Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1122).
Over the past few years, GSA has intensified efforts to reduce inefficiencies within the shipping and logistics chain, while advocating for policies that protect the interests of shippers and promote transparency in port and corridor operations. Through stakeholder engagement, policy interventions and collaboration with regulatory institutions, GSA has continued to push for practical reforms that lower the cost and complexity of doing business for importers and exporters. In February 2026, GSA partnered with TradeMark Africa (TMA) to introduce a specialized digital portal aimed at addressing Non-Tariff Bottlenecks that hinder trade facilitation. The initiative, known as the “NTB Reporting and Resolution Platform”, provides a swift and transparent mechanism for resolving complaints related to Non Tariff Barriers (NTBs). The intervention reflects GSA’s visionary approach to tackling operational constraints within the shipping and logistics chain, particularly those that increase the cost of doing business in Ghana.
The award for excellence for both GSA and Prof. Gyampo attests to GSA’s continuous work to promote efficient cargo movement, protect shipper interests and support a more predictable trading environment in line with its broader ambition to make Ghana the preferred trade and logistics hub in West Africa.Other award recipients from the public sector included Heads of Institutions such as the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), led by Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Ghana Communication Technology University and BOST Energies, among others.
The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Mrs. Abena Osei-Asare (MP), who graced the occasion, called on public institutions to ensure that resources allocated to them are used diligently for the benefit of the wider population.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, highlighted the critical role played by public servants, noting that their work extends beyond the tenure of political office holders. She urged them to carry out their responsibilities with dedication in the interest of national development.Over 30 awards were presented to Heads of Institutions from both the public and private sectors in recognition of their outstanding leadership and contributions to the effective delivery of their organisations’ mandates.
For staff of GSA, the recognition serves as both an encouragement and a responsibility. It affirms the importance of the work carried out daily across the institution and highlights the role GSA continues to play in strengthening Ghana’s position within regional and global trade.
