The Ghana Export-Import Bank (Eximbank) has entreated shippers – importers and exporters – to approach it early when they need financial assistance.
The Head of Guarantees at the Eximbank Mr. Anthony Kofi Dwumah made this appeal when a delegation from Eximbank on Wednesday April 4, 2022 paid a working visit to the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) as part of stakeholder consultations under the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA.
He said the appeal is to enable the Eximbank have adequate time to do due diligence before providing financial assistance to shippers. He also urged the Authority to engage the Ghana Eximbank at its exporter’s meetings.
“It is not difficult to get assistance from us but they (exporters) need to approach us early. We want to work with all the agencies that are involved in the export value chain.
We want to see if we can export more, so we will be grateful if we can be part of your meetings with them (the exporters) so we can speak to them and let them know what is available for them,” he said.
The Head of Shipper Services and Trade Facilitation at the GSA, Mrs. Monica Josiah who received the delegation assured them that they will be part of the Authority’s next Exporters Forum and others to follow.
She also called for partnership with the Eximbank in the area of logistics development.
“We have a logistics platform in Takoradi which is quite big. We have developed just two (2) acres of that land and it has a warehouse on it and there is still 19 acres of land to be developed. We are looking for strategic partners so you (Ghana Eximbank) can come in so we see what we can do. You can help us and it would be a partnership” Mrs Josiah said.
