The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) and the Executives of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) have held talks over some key developments affecting the maritime industry and how both parties can contribute to addressing them.
The meeting which took place at the Tema branch of the Authority February 16, 2018 discussed issues relating to evaluation of the Paperless Port Project, negotiation of charges, an upcoming Port Cost Seminar among others.
The meeting is the first in series for this year to be organised by the Authority, according to the CEO of the Authority Ms Benonita Bismarck, and it will focus on deepening the relationship between the two bodies for the benefit of shippers.
The President of GIFF, Mr Kwabena Ofosu Appiah , expressed his appreciation for the meeting and pledged his Institute’s commitment and collaboration with the Authority in addressing the bottlenecks in the maritime industry.
On the paperless project, he noted that even though its introduction was expected to significantly transform the clearing of cargoes at the port to save time and cost, it is beset with some challenges that have to be addressed.
Ms Bismarck assured him of the Authority’s support and intervention as it is constantly in talks with the stakeholders in charge of the National Single Window to address the challenges arising out of the implementation of the paperless project.
