On Thursday, 6th February, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), Prof. Ransford Gyampo, reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the commercial shipping sector, emphasizing its crucial role in Ghana’s economic growth.
He said this during a familiarization visit to Tema where the Zone is head-quartered.
Prof. Gyampo underscored the Zone’s pivotal role in fulfilling the GSA’s mandate and urged them to work diligently to protect and promote the interests of shippers.
He said, “I am here to ensure that our mandate to protect the interests of shippers and maintain a resourceful commercial shipping sector is fulfilled. You have done very well in the past, but we need to strive for further improvement. We need to work hard to deepen international trade between Ghana and its trading partners,” he stated.
He further stressed the importance of the GSA’s contribution to national revenue generation, noting, “We need to protect the interests of shippers while increasing the finances of the state for the mutual benefit of staff, as well as all external stakeholders. Being a people person, I will operate an open-door policy and inclusivity founded on fairness and merit.”
On her part, the Director of Operations, Ms. Sylvia Asana Dauda Owu who accompanied the CEO, acknowledged the dedication and capabilities of the staff, and assured Prof. Gyampo of their support and a congenial working relationship. She underscored the sacrifices they have made over the years to sustain the operations of the GSA, and expressed her belief in a similar output under his tenure.
The Zonal Manager, Mr. Charles Darling Asiedu Sey welcomed Prof Gyampo and on behalf of the staff of the Zone. He expressed gratitude for the promptness with which the CEO came over to meet and interact with staff of the Zone. Mr. Sey further assured the CEO of a cordial work relationship with him. Staff members welcomed the CEO’s visit with enthusiasm and pledged their full support for his tenure. They also made suggestions aimed at improving the effectiveness of the GSA as the regulator of Ghana’s commercial shipping sector.
The Head of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Bernice L. Natue in her summary of the interactions thanked the CEO for his assurance of a collaborative management approach and commitment to equity in dealing with issues on all fronts, both internally and externally. She thanked the staff for their warm reception and spirited engagement with the CEO.
Prof. Gyampo also visited some landed properties of GSA within the environs of the Tema municipality.
