Members of the Western Regional Shipper Committee (WRSC) paid a visit to the Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) on 25th July, 2019 to acquaint themselves with the company’s operations and facilities.
The GREL is Ghana’s leading exporter of serum from the rubber tree.
The WRSC is one of the ten Regional Shipper Committees established by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) across the country to bring together shippers, shipping service providers, state agencies involved in trade facilitation and other stakeholders in the shipping and logistics industry to discuss relevant issues affecting the industry and find solutions to them.
The Takoradi Branch Manager of the GSA, Mr Charles Sey, who led the delegation to the company said the visit was part of the Authority’s strategy to familiarise itself with the operations and business challenges of exporters in order to advocate to protect and promote their interests.
He said the visitations have helped the Authority and other stakeholder organisations and institutions identify and resolve business and shipment challenges of many shippers across the country.
The Factory Manager of GREL, Mr Ledru Elliot appealed to government to put interventions in place to stop the export of raw rubber since the practice was illegal.
The GREL operates in 95 communities in the Central, Western and Eastern Regions and hopes to increase production from the current 45,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes by 2025.
