The Secretary General of the Union of African Shippers’ Councils (UASC) Mr. Abdourahmane Saley paid a 3-day working visit to the Ghana Shippers’ Authority from July 5 – 8, 2017. The main purpose of the visit was to congratulate Ms Benonita B. Bismarck, on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority and by extension Chairperson of the Union.
The Secretary General warmly welcomed Ms Benonita B. Bismarck to the fold of the Union of African Shippers’ Councils and pledged his personal support for her successful tenure as Chairperson of the UASC Mr. Sally also discussed issues concerning the 8th African Shippers Day (ASD) and the Extraordinary Session of the Steering Committee, amongst others.
The Chairman of the UASC and Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Ms. Benonita Bismarck took the opportunity to welcome the Secretary General to Ghana and assured the Secretary General of Ghana’s continued support for the work of the UASC. She stated that “even though the leadership of the GSA had changed, the GSA’s commitment to the UASC will still be the same”.
In a related development, the UASC Secretary General and a GSA delegation led by the Chairperson of the Union, Ms. Benonita Bismarck, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah. The delegation among other things briefed the Honourable Minister on the 8th African Shippers Day, which is scheduled to be hosted in Ghana.
The Minister in response indicated Ghana’s readiness to host the scheduled event, and in particular, assured the delegation of Government’s support for the event. He therefore urged all involved to do their utmost to ensure the success of the impending event.
The delegation also visited the representatives of the Niger and Burkina Faso Shippers Councils in Tema, at which meetings some operational challenges of these Offices were discussed.
Ms. Iddrissa Zara Adamou, Representative of the Niger Shippers Council and Mr. Batonio Rakissiwinde of the Burkina Faso Shippers Council, took turns to expressed their gratitude for the visit and thanked the delegation for the gesture.
