NOTICE TO SHIPPERS
LOAD RESTRICTION ON THE BUIPE AND YAPEI BRIDGES ON THE KINTAMPO – TAMALE ROAD (N10 HIGHWAY)
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority wishes to bring to the attention of all shippers and hauliers in the northern sector of Ghana as well as those from our landlocked neighbours of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger that, with immediate effect, vehicles weighing more than twenty (20) tonnes would not be allowed to use the Buipe and Yapei Bridges on the Kintampo – Tamale road.
The Ghana Highway Authority has indicated that the load restriction on the aforementioned deteriorated bridges, is a preventive measure to avert any disaster on the bridges before rehabilitation works are carried out.
The two bridges are scheduled to be fully closed for rehabilitation at a date yet to be communicated.
In the meantime, the Ghana Highway Authority has made provision for alternative routes for vehicles weighing more than 20 tonnes, but within the permissible axle limits, as follows:
- Western Corridor:
Accra – Kumasi – Techiman – Wenchi – Bamboi – Bole – Wa.
- Eastern Corridor:
Accra – Tema – Hohoe – Jasikan – Nkwanta – Oti Damanko – Bimbilla – Yendi
- Central Corridor:
Accra – Kumasi – Mampong – Ejura – Atebubu – Yeji (Ferry Crossing) – Salaga
Accra – Kumasi – Techiman – Nkoranza – Ejura – Atebubu – Yji (Ferry Crossing) – Salaga.
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority kindly entreats all shippers and hauliers to comply with above directive to ensure the smooth flow of their businesses.
