The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority Mr. Baffour Okyere Sarpong is a business executive with over 20 years’ experience in several disciplines and workspaces.
His appointment as CEO of GSA is expected to drive the growth of the organization into the next phase of its mandate, as the state agency that facilitates and leads the strengthening of the private sector as the engine of industrial and commercial growth of the nation. With the wealth of distinguished international exposure and experience in visionary leadership as well as flawless execution of strategy he brings on board, it is expected that, he will lead the team at GSA to develop and implement bespoke strategies via interventions that encompass the vast value-chain and multiple players in the multi-modal shipping and logistics services sector.
CEO of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Mr. Baffour Okyere Sarpong
Mr. Baffour Okyere Sarpong is the seventh of eight children, born on 7th July 1976, to Nana Fred Sarpong and Mrs.Patience Sarpong. His formal education begun at the Association International School in Accra, and then the Achimota School, where he had his seven years secondary education from 1987 to 1995.
At Achimota School, Kwasi Sarpong’s leadership skills begun to show alongside his academic prowess as well as the ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. After completing sixth form, he did his National Service at the Noguchi Research Institute, and then went on to the Louisiana State University (LSU) in the United States of America(USA) on an academic scholarship to pursue his undergraduate studies. Kwasi Sarpong completed his studies at LSU in 1999 and graduated with a Degree in Biochemistry, with minors in Industrial Engineering and Economics.
After his 1st Degree, Kwasi was hired by UOP Chemicals, USA, the number one engineering company in the world. Thereafter, in 2001, Kwasi Sarpong went to work with Stupp Corporation, an oil and gas, and infrastructure development company, as its youngest International Business Manager.
After five (5) years with Stupp Corporation, he furthered his education to obtain an MBA in Finance, Marketing, and IT Strategy from his alma mata, LSU. He completed the MBA course of study in 2007 with distinction in Leadership and Service.
Kwasi Sarpong then joined Albemarle Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, where he worked from 2007 to 2012 as the Global Business Manager for their Petrochemicals Division.
After a distinguished career at Albemarle Corporation characterised by a series of notable promotions, Kwasi Sarpong joined the United Nations Foundation (UNF) as their Special Representative in Clean Energy. He worked with the UNF from 2013 to 2020, leaving an excellent record of performance.
Building upon the trajectory of excellence he had established in his career, Kwasi Sarpong founded the VulcanCompanies Incorporated, an Energy and Infrastructure Consulting firm.
Mr. Kwasi Sarpong is a devout Christian and is married to Mrs. Winifred Akosua Sarpong. They have been blessed with three sons, Kofi Appah, Kwadwo Sahene, and Levi Nana Kwadwo Sarpong.
