The Hon. Minister of Transport, Mr. Kwaku Ofori-Asiamah has urged the reconstituted Board of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) to collaborate with the Authority’s Management to ensure that the Boankra Inland Port is operationalised as part of plans to decongest the Tema Port and attract transit cargo.
He made this call at a ceremony held at the Head Office of the GSA on 29th August 2017 to inaugurate the 14-member Board.
The Transport Minister in his remarks mentioned that the vision of the government is to enhance the movement of goods and people while increasing the quality of life in the country.
He said the GSA was established in 1974 by NRCD 254 with a core mandate to protect and promote the interests of shippers in relation to port, ship and inland transport. The Authority, according to him, has been working with both the public and private sector organizations in the shipping industry to provide logistics support and improve service delivery in the shipping industry.
In addition, he said the Authority has over the years established a number of Shipper Complaints and Support Units at strategic locations in the country to provide real-time assistance to shippers who use the country’s entry points.
The Hon. Minister cautioned the Board against the unfortunate situation where they may be tempted to assume the role of management.
The Board Chairperson, Mrs Stella Wilson Agyepong assured the Hon. Minister that the Board will collaborate with the Authority’s management and industry stakeholders to attain the organisation’s set objectives.
