The eighth(8th) edition of the African Shippers’ Day will be hosted by the Ghana Shippers Authority in Accra from 22nd-24th November, 2017.
Previous editions were held as follows:
2.0. GHANA SHIPPERS' AUTHORITY HOSTING THE 8TH ASD
The Ghana Shippers' Authority, under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport, is the current Chairman of the Union of African Shippers' Councils in West and Central Africa (UASC).
The 19 member countries of the UASC are committed to the Trade Facilitation Agreement, and most of these countries have ratified the Agreement in their respective countries including Ghana.
By committing to host the eighth African Shippers’ Day, the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) is sticking to the policy of Shippers’ Councils within the sub-region, which have made trade facilitation a major concern for the competitiveness of the economies of their respective countries.
2.1. THE THEME FOR THE 8TH AFRICAN SHIPPERS DAY
The theme for the 8th African Shippers Day 'Trade Facilitation and its Impact on Africa's Industrialization' is very apt, especially so, in the wake of the Entry into force of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement ( TFA) in February, 2017.
More than ever there is the need for countries that have ratified the agreement to begin to implement the articles for which they have made commitments in accordance to the WTO TFA. Trade Facilitation lays down specific measures for import, export and transit formalities, to facilitate trade in order to enhance administrative efficiency and effectiveness and reduce transaction costs and time, whilst enhancing the predictability of global markets.
3.0. TRAGET AUDIENCE
Participants are from the West and Central African sub region - Shippers (importers and exporters), National Shippers’ Councils; Chambers of Commerce; Port communities; Customs, and the entire transport and logistics sector.
It is with pride that the Ghana Shippers' Authority hosts the 8th African Shippers Day (ASD) from 22-24 November 2017 in Accra and welcomes all our shippers.
The theme of the 8th ASD is' Trade Facilitation and its impact on Africa's Industrialization'.
The African Shippers Day is celebrated biennially. Initiated in 1999 within the framework of refocusing the missions of African Shippers' Councils, the African Shippers’ Day is undoubtedly a platform for reflection and exchange on diverse issues relating to maritime transport and international trade.
It is worthy of note, that the First African Shippers day was hosted by the Authority in Accra (Ghana) sixteen years ago on the theme "Maritime transport facing the challenges of the third millennium". The three- day event promises to be exciting, insightful and full of business opportunities as we bring experts on the topic of trade facilitation and industrialization. It would also be marked with a Trade Fair where shippers will have the opportunity to showcase products made in Africa or with African raw materials.
It is therefore with honour and pride that we look forward to welcoming all our shippers, sister Shippers Councils in Africa and our partners from around the globe to the beautiful city of Accra.
We have created a website for the event and it would be much appreciated if it would be checked for program updates, speaker details and online registration.
I trust that your stay in Ghana will be a fruitful one.
Warm regards,
Benonita Bismarck
Chair of UASC & Chief Executive of the
Ghana Shippers' Authority.
